Now that everyone can choose from the four plan options, I need to make an appeal to those who have been enrolled in plan 40692 A, which is the only plan that pays 70% of costs for out of network providers. KEA is supplementing those 15 individuals who have been enrolled in the plan, this costs the KEA Insurance Reserve $1,500 per member from October 1st of 2010 thru Oct1 2011. The reason this decision was made was so anyone with serious health issues who are currently under the care of an out of network provider had a humane amount of time to either find another provider or prepare to pay more per month for their care. Since insurance info is confidential no one knows who is seriously ill.
I dropped off this plan in August, since as a negotiator I didn't think I should benefit from this decision. My husband, Alan, is dropping off of plan A now and I know one other teacher has volunteered to drop off. This saves the KEA Insurance Reserve $5,000 this year. I would like to appeal to others who can replace their out of network providers with in network providers or those whose providers are already in network to consider dropping off plan A to one of the other plans. We are trying to help those truly in need of out of network providers, if you don't have a true need please consider helping out your union's insurance reserve so that we are only paying for the seriously ill. You can check for in net work providers at the following website: http://www.anthem.com/ca/sisc/
If you don't know what plan you are currently on please contact Cathy Wilder at ext 3206.
